St Francis wins opener against Duluth East 9-3-10, 48-13

Football: St. Francis dismantled Duluth East

by Tom Yelle Staff writer

A searing ground attack, that produced more than 275 yards and a relentless defense that gave up just one first down and less than three dozen yards when the contest was still a contest in the first half, were the keys to a resounding 48-13 Friday night St. Francis non-conference win over Duluth East in Duluth.
Dontay Matthews, the athlete who started in the St. Francis program, moved to Brooklyn Park and returned this year for his senior season, came through with a ground performance of 147 yards (according to Duluth stats), including a 44-yard touchdown run just before halftime that gave the Saints a 26-0 advantage at the break.
Meantime, Jake Engnell and Michael Scardigli scored two touchdowns each. Engnell had a 4-yard run to open the game's scoring and a 24-yard run to open the scoring in the second half; Scadigli had scoring runs of five and 12 yards in the second and third quarters.
And there was pass receiver Jordan Tradewell, who provided two of the game's most electrifying plays. In the first quarter, he took an out pass from St. Francis
The touchdown return ended the Saints' offensive assault.
Combined with three extra-point kicks by Jon Lucas, another by Engnell and a two-point conversion pass play engineered by Aho, St. Francis had a 48-7 lead at the time on the way to its 48-13 victory. quarterback Tanner Aho and roared up the sideline to complete a 77-yard touchdown play. Then in the third quarter -- following East's first touchdown (one of two on pass plays in the second half) -- Tradewell took the ensuing kickoff and returned it 82 yards for another touchdown.

"Grid Iron" discount cards clarification
Hello SF Football Families,

I'd like to take a quick moment to first thank all of the players and families who sold and purchased the teams "Grid Iron" discount cards!

Secondly, I want to clarify the usage of the movie theater discounts.  As many of our supporters remember, last years theater discounts were printed on card stock paper coupons.  This year we had the ability to change the design to keep the card and discounts together for both ease, and the ability to safeguard against unauthorized duplication. (which unfortunately people do attempt, thus jeopardizing the relationships with those donating to us.)

The template from the manufacturer, has the two side coupons having hole that can be punched out.  These "holes" are not to imply multiple use.  The two movie coupons are one time use each and will be kept by the cashier at the theater.  Based on the precedence from last years coupons, we Grid Club members did not consider printing "one time use" on the movie coupons.  If that design caused any confusion we apologize and will be sure to remedy for upcoming cards.

I have received one e-mail complaining about this design, and that e-mail did say that the patron did complain directly to the theater and threatened a boycott against them.  PLEASE DO NOT CREATE DIFFICULT SITUATIONS OR HINDER RELATIONSHIPS WITH THOSE BUSINESSES SO GRACIOUS TO GIVE US SUCH GREAT DISCOUNTS!  The theater discount is the cornerstone of a great card and is invaluable in keeping this fundraiser, our main source of income, intact.

Last task for us all;  please take a few minutes to "spread the word" with friends and family in the community that may have gotten a card by sending to your e-mail chain.

Again, Thanks for your support, we apologize if there was any confusion, and thanks for the help sharing the word!

Go Saints!
